Turn key project phase 1 & 2 - Honey tomatoes

VEK was assigned to develop a nursery, together with the client, with the starting point that the nursery should comply with the philosophy of the grower. This philosophy is based on a minimum use of energy, a closed water circulation system, growing tomatoes without pesticides in an economical efficient way. The project includes greenhouse, unique screening installation, lighting installation, unique design of the office building, packing building with 2 loading docks, CHP system of 4 MW-e, closed water circulation system, energy production and supply to the electricity grid, year round water storage, high tech water technical area, shielding of the grow light, site development, automatic glass cleaning system.

VEK Adviesgroep supervised the whole process, including planning, design (architecture), engineering, tendering & contracting.

After realization of Phase 1 in 2011, VEK was involved in the realization of the next phase. Combined with installing supplemental lighting in phase 1, the entire greenhouse in phase 2 was installed with supplemental lighting too. This made it possible to produce Looije’s famous Honey tomatoes the whole year round. Also the greenhouse in phase 2 was equipped with coated and diffuse glass on the greenhouse roof. An other innovation was application of the newest systems for active dehumidification by adding less humid air for outside the greenhouse into is (the Next Generation of Greenhouse Cultivation).
